Taiyuan Wusu International Airport or TYN is the largest airport in the province of Shanxi. The airport is located in Xiaodian District, Taiyuan. It is the focus city for two airlines, namely China Eastern Airlines as well as Hainan Airlines. TYN is ranked as the 28th among the busiest airports in China.

TYN Airport was first built in 1939. Since then it has evolved into one of the most important airports in the province of Shanxi and also one of its busiest. The airport has connections to most of the major cities in China and was also able to serve as Beijing Capital International Airport’s diversionary airport. It performed this function notably well during the Beijing Olympics in 2008. The airport has undergone an expansion starting March 2006 that cost CNY 1.57 billion and was completed later in the following year. The expansion enabled the airport to serve 6 million passengers in a year.
